VALENTINES DAY SURVEY

VALENTINES DAY SURVEY

From a wheelbarrow to a wedding how do Manchester Fort shoppers celebrate?

Valentines Day commemorates the patron saint of lovers St Valentine. But what does it mean to us today? We asked shoppers at Manchester Fort Shopping Park what they really think of Valentines Day*:
What do you really think of Valentine's Day?
Many keep their sense of humour about February 14th. Over 50% said it's fun but shouldn't be taken too seriously, but 25% declared it the most special and romantic day of the year. 25% of men said they just wouldnt dare ignore it (!) and an equal number of men and women (14%) said they chose not to recognise it. But were betting they secretly wait for the post to arrive with anticipation!
Does your partner remember Valentine's Day?

Oh dear. 65% of men have forgotten Valentines Day and 20% of those admit to doing a lot of grovelling before being forgiven! 5% said they were never forgiven! No wonder when 85% of women do remember. And when it comes to sending a card, 50% of the women in Manchester Fort we asked do send a card, but only 30% of men said they put a card in the post so does that mean many women are going to be very disappointed when the postman arrives?
How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?
Valentine's Day is second only to Christmas as being a big card-sending occasion. One billion are sent each year! So its no wonder its top of the list with Manchester Fort shoppers. The second biggest way of celebrating (40%) was a romantic meal and then home for 'an early night' (wink).

How much do you spend on Valentines Day?

Well it seems although the men may need a little prompting, they do spend more that women with 25% spending between 20 and 50, and 25% spending over 50! Women tend to spend between 10 and 20. Perhaps the fact that they forgot the year before means they are making up for it with extravagant gifts?!
