Sixteen teams, aged 16+, drawn from Manchesters diverse ethnic local community got together at the Platt Lane Complex, Rusholme, to kick off their new Manchester Community Football League.

The new league was launched following on from the success of a 5-a-side football tournament which took place in April of this year. This attracted 24 teams and the winners were Milanchester who are now entitled to free entry into the league and sponsorship from Manchester Fort Shopping Park.

Commenting on the new league, Philip Byrne, Centre Manager at Manchester Fort said:

"We are all really excited to be involved in this new community league which we feel will be an extremely important part of our local community. I wish the all teams well now the league has kicked off and I am looking forward to watching our new Milanchester Fort team."

With over 30 high street stores as Manchester Fort including Sports World, the new players will be able to pick up all of their sporting equipment.

The entire league has been put together by several organisations who have come together in the spirit of community cohesion, including Social Enterprise Development Initiative, Muslim Association of Britain (Youth), Young Muslims UK, Manchester Fort Shopping Park and Manchester FA.
