MANCHESTER FORT SHOPPING PARKS GREEN CREDENTIALS REWARDED
Manchester Fort Shopping Park, located on Cheetham Hill Road in Manchester, has been rewarded for its efforts in waste reduction with a Green Apple Award.
Representatives from Manchester Fort will collect an award hosted at the House of Commons on 14th November for their efforts in reducing waste and improving recycling at the shopping park.
The shopping park owned by Henderson Global Investors c. 1.1 billion UK Retail Warehouse Fund, mark a fourth Green Apple, which is firmly committed to a Responsible Property Investment programme, across its assets.
Manchester Forts centre manager David Wait comments We are delighted that Manchester Fort Shopping Park will be receiving an award from Green Apple.
Our aim was to create a series of systems which helps the wider environment and our retailers, who now benefit from simpler and more effective waste management systems at the shopping park. The new systems implemented save time, eases in store systems and give tenants peace of mind that they are meeting their own company environmental targets. This has also meant that the shopping park has managed to reduce external costs.
Manchester Forts success has come from the sites own achievement with no more waste going to landfill and in sending 87% of the schemes waste to recycling in 2010, and a massive 100% to recycling in 2011.
National retailers Shoezone and Clintons have recently opened stores at Manchester Fort, as well as one of the UKs leading retailers Marks and Spencer agreeing a deal that will see them open a site at the shopping park later this year.
Marks and Spencer will launch a Simply Food outlet within an 18,000 sq ft unit at the scheme and are expected to launch in the autumn. Whilst Clinton, the national greetings card and gift retailer has taken a 3,800 sq ft unit and footwear retailer ShoeZone have taken 2,600 sq ft of space.
